As an Aussie, I shorten words all the time - its just an Australian thing to do.

McDonald's is Maccas

Registration is Rego

Holidays is Hols

Breakfast is Brekkie

Thanks is Ta

Garbage is Garbo

...and of course...Good Afternoon is G'Day

But it has honestly got so bad in my house, that I am shortening my children's names. For example, my daughter has 6 letters in her name; for a while we have called her a nickname of 5 letters, and now I am actually referring to my first born by just the first letter of her name!

It has to stop. 

But, I had an amaze arvo with M on our hols :)
